Awards, Contest Winners & Icecream
Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

Living in Atlanta shouldn’t be as difficult as I’m experiencing. I don’t hardly get out enough. With all the food choices found in Class A resto’s lacing this southern city, you’d think I’d go out and have some. At least to meet people other than the 3 culprits I spend 80% of my life with (one married, one a wahoo of all things alcohol & the other brings his own syrup when we go to breakfast joints at midnight).

So exciting, I know.

Not so much. I was in bed last night, blogging for about 2 hours, and decided I really wanted to go to bed with a stomach ache. What better way to accomplish this, than to pull out a spoon (a really big spoon) and dig way deep into my Haagen Daz Green Tea ice cream. All the way to the bottom. At 2:30 in the morning.

I. am. not. a. glutton. for. pain.

1000 calories and 80 g of sugar later I’m feeling great! I find solace knowing this will not occur again until I get married and have kids. However, I must get outside now and run/walk 5 miles. Maybe 5.3.

COMMENTING: Thanks to those that leave comments. I really appreciate it. It lets me know you read and care about what I have to say. If I’ve not visited you in a while, holler at me. Literally. Call a girl out. For real.

AWARDS: I’ve been so consumed with trying to catch up on a whole lot that I forgot to mention some nice accolades dished by fellow bloggers.

Thanks to Margot of Coffee & Vanilla for making my “ARROZ CON LECHE” recipe and then awarding me with the “Yummy Food Blog”. But before that, she was so generous to think of me when rendering kudos for the “Arte y Pico” award. Thanks Margot, for your kindness and thoughtfulness!

And Nikki over at CanaryGirl was also too sweet in sending over the “I Love You This Much” award. I connect with her in a few ways so it’s cool to be recognized by her.

So I now pass on the kudos (wasn’t that a candy bar way back when?) to these blogs I really enjoy, especially when I can’t drum up energy to take pics and edit and write and fool around with html code and all that it takes to get a post up.

Yummy Food Blog:

Nick @ Peanut Butter Boy (the best PB recipes you never even knew existed)

Donald @ Mr. Orph’s Kitchen (super low key friend that loves to cook)

Amy @ We are Never Full (great food, insightful, loves to travel and tell about it)

I know you are so super duper busy, but am so happy to see you out there doing all the things that you love! You’re crazy, blogging even when you’re sick! That’s crazy, it makes me appreciate you so much more!
That’s my girl, curing the pain with ice cream! I should try that, especially after a long day’s work and bitchy customers all day. The Hagen Dazz therapy sounds like a sure cure!
Thanks for the kind words and award! Congrats to all the others and for your awards too B! Gosh, this blogging world is a great place. We’re so happy to be a part of it.

Oh poor thing, I feel your pain! I’ve done that kind of thing to many times… I’m only happy when the spoon hits the bottom of the tub. Plain sad…

Oh forgot to tell you: green tea is so good for you, I’m sure eating green tea ice cream wasn’t so bad after all!

take care and I look forward to your upcoming posts. The scallops sounds so yumm!

I just recently found your blog and absolutely love it! So…just thought I’d say hi.

Atlanta, huh? If you like sweet things, you should check out the Matty Cakes bakery in Midtown. It’s not, like, some couture, 4 star restaurant, but…they’re not too shabby. :)

D&T: No, no, I caused the pain! LOL! I wanted to eat that entire pint of ice cream, ergo a stomach ache! I love reading your blog so I’m glad to hand that over to you guys!

Clubmsy Cookie: Yup, and I had a cup of GT last night before I went to bed, tho you know I would have preferred the icrecream!

Nora: Girl, it’s never too cold to eat ice cream!

Ley: Glad you stopped by. Come back! Matty Cakes? Hmmm. Never heard of! I’ll look into it.

Dhanggit: I forced the stomach ache! :)

Yum! Thanks Bren! You know you could totally make the stomach and guilt ache less if you get something like the Blue Bunny brand light ice cream. It is DARN good, and they’ve got this one insane flavor called “bunny tracks” that has chocolate covered peanuts, peanut butter filled chocolate bunnies (rabbit for dessert!), a fudge swirl AND a peanut butter caramel swirl in it. Somehow with all that stuff in it, you can still get the “light” version. It kicks ass.

Congrats! And the scallops sound like they ought to be delicious

Thank you so much Bren!! I can’t forget to add that me and my husb. Jonny share the writing/creating duties on our website. I usually end up making lots of comments so people forget about him. ha ha ha! But this is so sweet! We always strive to make ‘yummy’ food if possible. Thanks again, girly!!

and you’re right - comments really can become the lifeline of the food blog. It does make it easier to work hard on a ‘hobby’ that is not paying you if you know other people are reading it and enjoying what you do.

Wow! You have a lot of awards! Congrats to you.
And thank you for the award! That’s so sweet.

I love ice cream! I don’t blame you for eating the whole container - I would have done the same thing. I’m more of a chocolate chip cookie dough girl myself. :)

There is absolutely nothing wrong with eating an entire carton of ice cream at 2:30 in the morning! (I prefer the HD Honey version myself).

Who is B?

B Mi nombre es Brenda. My friends call me B. And Bren is my stage and pen-name. I’m a single gal living alone in Atlanta for the time being. I’m a soulful chick. I have a passion for all things food. I sing and song-write on the side, but cooking is what pays my bills! I like to say I’m a pretty darn cook! I was raised in a very traditional Latin home, which meant everything happened(s) in the kitchen, literally! story-telling, crying, partying, fighting...oh yeah and cooking!

Saffron

(pic from saffronusa.com)

We all know this spice. Coined as the most expensive spice in the world, we love to cook with this tiny little thread. It is mainstay in any Latin kitchen. Used for rich yellow/reddish coloring and a smoky flavor, we primarily use it in our yellow rices and some meat dishes. Though saffrons pocket pinching pricetag, a fine, high-grade batch of threads will yield enough color and flavor to last a long time. If you don’t have saffron dollars, a great substitute is either annatto or achiote, both coloring agents with similar properties. My fave dish to use saffron in, “arroz con pollo”! I’ll soon post on how to use it with some recipes. Enjoy!
