#FlanFridays: Toughest One Yet! The Blueberry.

Blueberryflan2 #FlanFridays: Toughest One Yet! The Blueberry.

Yes, it’s almost midnight my time, and I’m laying in bed writing this post out of sheer commitment to satisfy my followers on Twitter that know about #FlanFridays.

I got up early this morning, excited about FINALLY using up the fresh blueberries that had been staring at me every time I opened my fridge. They knew they were going to be used for a flan.  I’ve been talking about it for about 4 weeks now.

But, I just couldn’t bring myself to making it. No reason in particular. Just wasn’t compelled to indulge in yet another blueberry summer dessert.

Now, I know why!

This bad boy is insanely delicious. It’s sinfully pretty. It’s beautifully colored. It’s sexy creamy.

But a hell of a process if ever I’ve had in making a fresh fruit flan!

I am relentless in my efforts, however, and was not going to allow this itty blue ball get the best of me. I puréed the blueberries, made my custard mix, cooked it, chilled it, unmolded it, and this is what I got.

Utter perfection (slight margin of dissatisfaction in the side texture).

I’ll spare you the details of the slightly labor intensive steps (which I’ll admit to having to modify next time) of this one luscious and creamy flan. I just want you to pretend you have a spoonful in your mouth.

Just as I did about an hour ago!

Happy #FlanFridays!

    Emma says:

    Holy moly that looks good!

    David says:

That looks super… someone said “tantalizing”"? I guess, whatever that means it sure sounds appropriate :-) . I’m a fool for flan, and blueberry, while not my favorite berry, is indeed “berry” healthy, which puts a damp on the sin of downing so much sugar and cholesterol. Great flan; great pic.

    Eliana says:

Whoa – this looks sinfully delicious. Yo quiero un slice bien grande ahora mismo!

    Chefb says:

Chris: it was perfect… I’ll make sure to make you one next time you come over…

Lil B: yes, yes, yes, home guuurl!

Emma: girlfried, imma have to make one for you alone! ;)

David: Tantalizing indeed, sexalicious and super yummy. A great treat
to dish up to anyone! Plus, like you said, lots of antioxidants.

    Eliana: Sinfully deeeeelish right, mi’ja!

    cheffresco says:

Now this is some serious looking flan! I never have been a fan of the dessert, but I’m tempted by this photo. And we have loads of blueberries just waiting to get used up!

    Jonathan says:

You killed it with this one sis.. those pics look amazing!

    Missy foo says:

Looks good, tasty and the blueberries look deeeelicious!

I want this in my life, like right now!

    Dullah says:

Wow! Wish I had some of that. I need to be around next time you make one of those.

    Rohan says:

I admit I just stared at that picture for a while. I never knew you could make flan with blueberries (or any berry for that matter).

I bet is labor intensive like you said but well worth it. The next time you make one of these you know to give me a call. I can be your official flan taster. :)
