3 Dessert Drinks to Sweeten Your Palate (on Latina.com)

Dulcedelechecocktail 3 Dessert Drinks to Sweeten Your Palate (on Latina.com)

Summer is almost over and the days of sunbathing, late-night poolside parties, Labor day sales causing a refinance, bright colored fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables and guiltless indulgence in all type desserts are almost over!

Soon, it will be a faux pas to wear our sexy sandals with mini skirts.

This week’s column on Latina is all about yummy dessert drinks!

In my relentless effort to enjoy a few more of the joys summer brings before the season changes, it occurred to me that frosty drinks are a simple way to stay attached to that airy feeling. For me, anything with a hint of sweetness and unexpected aromatic infusions help me get through an otherwise sticky day.

But instead of sipping on the average cocktail, why not try something different? Since you’re probably skipping those high-calorie desserts to keep your waistline trim, try these summery drinks that are like desserts-in-a-glass. A sweet way to finish off a meal and the season.

Candy Clouds “Martini” (a dulce de leche delight by Bren)

Who doesn’t love dulce de leche!? My brother and I used to fight over blocks of it when we lived in Miami, until I learned how to make it. An absolute delicious and if ever I’ve had a sugar-loaded treat, this would be it! If you’ve made it yourself, you know it can be a bit labor intensive, but with this drink version, sip away and leave the can of sweetened condensed milk boiling with abuelita or your daring baker amigas !

This drink is uber sexy, it’s easy to make and you’ll definitely impress your guests with the hardened caramel lacing your glass. Adding the caramel to my chilled glass was exciting and made my new recipe worth the trouble! The creaminess was quickly achieved by  using Talenti Tahitian Vanilla bean gelato instead of ice cream. I’ve not had such a rich yet truly vanilla tasting cream based delectable in a longer  than should be acceptable time. What else could you possibly use? It’s like adding fat free milk to an expensive cup of tea–sacrilegious!

Instead of  sweetened condensed milk, generous shots of Bailey’s Caramel flavored Irish Cream took it over the top! Maybe an unsuspecting choice, but I knew the combination of a gourmet gelato like theirs, with Bailey’s caramel liqueur would yield a perfect and beautiful drink. The creaminess made me gasp while the candied caramel slowly seeped its way to the bottom of the glass, leaving lovely legs along the way.

I omitted vodka, but if you must have it, I’m confident you’ll become a bonafide mixologist.  Make it your new sexy drink, ‘cuz it’s just that amazing.

I’m including two more drinks I’ve featured here on Flanboyant Eats before that I deem  just as good and they deserve a bit more love, too!

Check them out and the recipe to this creamy goodness in my weekly column on Latina.com.
